Imagine The Great Gatsby with Myan mythology set in Mexico, the world is so dazzling and vivacious, and the quiet moments are serene with deep characters that slowly develop and change, even the dieties. The romance was a pleasant surprise, it's sweet and gentle and left my heart with that perfect warm and fuzzy feeling. This book is spectacular!
I don't think I've felt quite so sympathetic for Death than I have with this story, it's insightful and magical and heart-wrenching, but for carrying such heavy themes of dying and grieveing the narrative is suprisingly gentle. The setting of Indian culture is something entirely unique, as is the art style, definitely my new favorite graphic novel.
Lyrical and so surreal, I was astounded to find out this is a debut novel. Chinese mythology is rife with all kinds of creatures and settings and magic, and Sue Lynn Tan employs so much grace and fun with her story. Despite the fast pace nothing feels rushed or skipped over, and the characters feel real and develop so naturally over the course of the story, it makes me so excited for the sequel!
My number one favorite book, this ethereal and enchanting fantasy feels like stargazing with a warm blanket, finding wonder in every page you turn. This is still the closest I've come to finding a book made of pure, tangible magic. If you have ever been curious about this book, READ IT!

A lovely collection of stories, myths, legends, fairy and folk tales from around the world, filled with witches and magic tree people and big wolves and so much more! Each story is told with so much care for the culture it comes from and any historical context for it is given as well. The woodblock style art accompanying the stories is wonderful as well, with so much character.
With a tone very similar to that of The VVitch and Midsommar, Slewfoot is a perfectly dark fairy tale of a forest demon struggling to find himself and a spirited young woman fighting for her freedom. Thier friendship is something entirely unique and enchanting, and the world is harrowing and wild, making for an unforgettable story.
