These stories were compelling and felt so real. They were an intense look at grief and trying to find hope and belonging. They were surprising, heartbreaking, and laugh-out-loud funny. A roller coaster of emotions with this collection.

This book grabbed me and held me till the very end. I was enraptured.
Excellent sense of character and place building. There are a lot of perspectives, and a pretty large cast, but it never felt unmanageable to follow. It takes its time weaving an elaborate story, and all characters are written with care. 10/10

With a combination of magical realism and horror, this book hits on a lot of different things excellently. A woman comes back to her small town after years of being away - the same small town where young black girls go missing in the woods every summer. The character interactions felt very genuine and grounded. I especially liked how Adams discussed small town life for black folks, and all the racism and classism that follows.

I would argue that this is the last great YA dystopian trilogy. It kicked off the craze, but none could match what this series accomplished and the message it told. AND it now also has a prequel that holds up to the messaging and themes of the original series.

Excellent creation and sense of place. Beautifully written.
Nature as a character in this book is ever present and powerful. Steinbeck's descriptions of the land/natural environment and the pull some people feel to it was incredible. It will stay with me for a long time.
